Hi my name is Ashley and I’m 2015 I decided that I wasn’t going to be the victim of domestic violence anymore. I had the person arrested which ended up including a felony strangulation charge. Because I didn’t want to go to court and face my abuser he was let go with probation and his felony charge. He had also been arrested for breaking my nose previously. After 3 or 4 years the state of Florida expunged his record and now he is able to own a gun in which he owns two now. He tried to pull a gun on me before. After our divorce he dated another girl and started abusing her. We need to stand up for anyone being abused. People are dying and nothing is being done. I want to propose that when someone is convicted of felony domestic violence that their record cannot be expunged and they have to register and can never own a gun. I was always afraid to leave and never say anything. I have lost a lot of people who I thought were my friends. But anyone needs to know in this situation that you are worth it! I just want to help anyone that has been in this situation because it’s not about winning or losing, it is about doing the right thing and protecting those that can not protect themselves.
