Hello. I am a senior at Ashland High School. I have recently been informed of a petition to force students to be vaccinated if they want to attend school in person. The petition was started by the ASB co-presidents, Josh Datz and Luke Seely. They believe that they would be preventing the spread of covid by requiring in-person students to be vaccinated. I have been informed by AHS faculty that the overall number of students who have tested positive for covid is extremely low so far this school year. If students continue to follow the covid restrictions and rules that the high school has put in place, I do not forsee the rate of covid cases going up. The main issue I am concerned with is body autonomy. I am not opposed to people getting the vaccine. I believe that the freedom of choice is a basic human right. I am currently attending AHS in person, and would like to continue attending in person without being forced to put something inside my body that I do not want. This petition would allow any student, vaccinated or not, to make the choice to attend school at home or in person. If you are an AHS student or parent and you believe in freedom of choice and body autonomy, I urge you to sign this petition.
