change gct dress code

Greene County Tech has a very out of date dress code. For example, no pants that show your underwear, understandably enough. Although this rule may seem regular, I absolutely do not feel comfortable having a grown adult tell me they can see my underwear. There are better ways to go about a situation other than dress coding people. sometimes mistakes happen and dress code is doing nothing but making a little situation into a big deal. Not to mention, the next rule says no pants that show your “buttocks”. Excuse me, the showing of your “buttocks” is allowed when cheerleaders cheer, and when cross country runs, and when volleyball, soccer, and basketball play. “This prohibition does not apply, however, to a costume or uniform worn by a student while participating in a school-sponsored activity or event”. (handbook Pg.96) If our own school uniforms can break traditional dress code, then why should people have to dress to “not be distracting” on days we are wearing regular clothes. Coaches have to pick out a uniform every so often and they always pick ones that aren’t “appropriate”. Why’s that? Why can they wear that but everybody else can’t? The setting of the school event should not matter. Keep a set rule or don’t make that one at all. The very next rule is that girls are not allowed to wear shirts that don’t cover their breasts. I’m sorry, if you are focusing on my breasts…as a 16 year old..then you are the problem. We are all 14-18 in the building and you’re over sexualizing every item of clothing possible. Women shouldn’t have to cover up to “protect” themselves from men. That is obviously blaming a victim. I do not want to completely eliminate dress code, but i want all females to feel more comfortable because obviously these rules were set for them.
