Why this petition matters

Started by Bling Auntie

Demand consumer safety! Join our petition to compel Paparazzi Accessories, a popular jewelry brand, to release the results of their product tests for lead, nickel, cadmium, antimony, arsenic, and mercury.

In December 2021 through February 2022, former independent consultants of Paparazzi Accessories commissioned--at their own expense--accredited laboratories to conduct heavy metal testing on samples of the jewelry sold to them by Paparazzi Accessories, LLC. The reports from the laboratories show levels of lead, nickel, cadmium, antimony, arsenic, and mercury higher than the levels allowable by consumer protection regulatory agencies.

On December 22, 2021, Paparazzi sent an email to their Independent Consultants stating in part:

"We are writing to address misleading and false rumors regarding the contents of Paparazzi jewelry.

Paparazzi Accessories meets applicable safety laws and regulations in the United States, including California Proposition 65, which is one of the most stringent consumer laws in the United States, even though some jewelry may contain trace amounts of lead and nickel. The metals found in Paparazzi jewelry pieces are primarily made of iron and include other trace minerals. Those trace minerals are made up of a metallic alloy of either zinc, steel, or aluminum. Before our jewelry is sold, Paparazzi tests its jewelry for chemicals of concern using labs that are accepted by the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission.

Paparazzi Accessories is required to undergo testing for compliance with California’s Proposition 65. This process includes testing for all heavy metals, including lead, nickel, and cadmium, as well as testing for phthalates. The testing process also ensures the requirements of the Federal Trade Commission’s “Green Guide” are met. These guidelines provide businesses with general principles that apply to all environmental marketing claims, among other things."

Today, Paparazzi's website reads much differently:

"The metals found in Paparazzi Accessories pieces are primarily iron and include other trace minerals. Those trace minerals are made up of a metallic alloy of either zinc, steel, or aluminum. Before our jewelry is sold, Paparazzi tests its jewelry for chemicals of concern using labs that are accepted by the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission."

What is the truth? Why was the California Prop. 65 language removed? We, as concerned customers and former consultants who still have inventory in our homes, deserve transparency and assurance that the accessories we purchased are free from harmful substances. Lead, nickel, cadmium, antimony, arsenic, and mercury  are known to pose serious health risks, especially when in prolonged contact with our skin, inhaled dust, and children mouthing. By keeping the results of these tests hidden, Paparazzi Accessories raises legitimate concerns about the safety and well-being of their customers.

Our goal is simple: to urge Paparazzi Accessories to prioritize consumer health by promptly sharing the test results they have conducted on their products. This will allow us to make informed decisions about the accessories we choose to wear and protect ourselves and our loved ones from potential harm.

By signing this petition, you are adding your voice to a growing movement demanding transparency and accountability from Paparazzi Accessories. Together, let's send a clear message that consumer safety matters and that we expect responsible practices from the brands we support.

Join us now and sign the petition to compel Paparazzi Accessories to release the results of their product tests for lead, nickel, cadmium, antimony, arsenic, and mercury. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a safer marketplace for everyone.
