To the concerned authorities and the government of Delhi,

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit not just our city or nation but the whole world and has led to massive losses in health and wealth globally over the last eight months. During this pandemic, we all have suffered a lot either financially, mentally or in some cases both. Not only the deceased but in fact each and every family has suffered innumerable losses. We, the students of Delhi write this petition to bring to your notice the hardships that the students are facing during this time and request the concerned authorities to please have a look and take the necessary actions needed.

This is the time when a new academic year for colleges begins and parents have to pay hefty fees, but due to job loss and immense pay cuts, parents are running out of money and all the savings are burned out. There are a large number of students who have already taken the education loan, or many families have suffered and paid large amounts for COVID-19 treatment so paying the complete fee for this academic year is statistically impossible.

If students won't be able to pay the fees then they might not get their degree on time or may even have to opt-out of colleges which will further escalate in job loss, unemployment for upcoming working youth that will tremendously affect students, parents mentally, and financially.

Colleges in Delhi have been forced to shut down first by Delhi Riots in the month of February and have hardly opened since then because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Students have not used any of the facilities for which they earlier paid like the use of college infrastructure, instructional
support, development fees, labs, education, transportation, library, sports, cultural events, workshops, gardening, electricity, maintenance, and many other more
. However, we understand that the faculty must be paid and that no one should be curbed of their income, and hence we propose the colleges to charge only tuition fees (or 50% of the total fees) for this academic year.

This is our plea to the Delhi Government who has always been with the students and acted as a voice for youth empowerment to waive off 50% fee this year and provide a fair opportunity to education to everyone so that no individual has to suffer. We, the students in return promise to work hard and deliver exceptional results.

Sincerely,
Students of Delhi
