Emily Quinn started this petition to Arvada City Manager and
With widespread development and population increase throughout NW Arvada, an influx of traffic has led to a subsequent increase in speeding, aggressive driving, and driver negligence of our great community.

Ward Rd. is the only thoroughfare to the I-70, and because the speed limit is 35, this entices people to frequent our little neighborhood street.

In particular, this petition is to reduce the speed limit to 25 mph on the stretch of Ward Rd. at 70th (just before the pedestrian crosswalk / traffic signal) through to 72nd St.

Each day, hundreds of people use this section of Ward to enjoy Ralston Creek Trail.

Families with babes in strollers, dog walkers, bikers, skateboarders, horseback riders and wildlife are among those relying on reduced speeds.

Over the course of the past 6 mos., I have experienced drivers speeding through the red light traffic signaling for pedestrian crossing at least 75 times.

I worry that at some point, someone is going to get hit, injured and possibly killed by one of these drivers.

Before that happens, let's pressure the City to lower speeds.

We love our neighborhood, and we love that we're all lucky enough to have such an awesome trail meandering through our streets, but it's becoming harder to enjoy these features as people increasingly disregard current traffic laws.

The speed limit is currently 35 mph. Based on many studies conducted throughout the country, we know that reducing speed limits reduces speeds and overall instances of traffic infractions; all of which work in favor of improving the safety of our pedestrian-friendly way of life here in NW Arvada. See a few studies here: (https://www.google.com/amp/s/aashtojournal.org/2018/08/31/studies-say-lower-speed-limits-will-help-improve-roadway-safety/amp/ ; https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/30205285/?i=5&from=/25261618/related ; http://engineers.missouri.edu/csun/files/2016/08/Residential_Speed_Limit_MU_Springfield.pdf -- just to list a few).

We need the Director of Public Works, Burt Knight (bknight@arvada.org) to take action and reduce speeds along Ward Rd. and the Ralston Creek Trail.

Please sign and share with anyone else you know who lives here and/or uses the trail at this intersection.

Help protect our community!!

Public Works, in conjunction with the Traffic Engineering Division must reduce the speed limit on Ward Rd. between 70th & 72nd from 35 mph to 25 mph.

My family has an infant and two dogs who use this crosswalk at least twice each day, and we're increasingly afraid to do so having experienced 75+ incidents wherein which drivers speed through the light and risk hitting us as we cross. We worry that someone may get hit and subsequently injured or killed unless the speed limit is reduced.
