As the dates have fallen, junior students at Springbrook High School are forced to take the SAT while under the great stress and pressure of mock exams throughout the week of April 8, 2019 to April 12, 2019. With the SAT on April 9. 2019, students are placed under the burden of stress from two conflicting academic forces. One being the SAT on April 9, 2019. The other being the mock exams in AP/IB/Honors classes. The alignment of these two events is placing an unjust amount of extra academic stress on students trying to do their best for the SAT.

A response to this would be to move/shift the block week to the week of April 23, 2019 to April 26, 2019, then the following Monday of April 29, 2019. As the April 9, 2019 date for the SAT is unchangeable, the school mandated block week should be changed. By dividing the workload to two separate time frames, students will be able to better perform on each. SATs are essential standardized tests that call upon the student's best performance. By imposing "block week" on students the week of the SAT, it places a pejorative burden which gravely impacts students. Rather than focusing on answering the SAT question, some students may be distracted with dates they memorized for their upcoming AP History mock exam. The current circumstances are, thus, placing unnecessary stressors on the students of Springbrook, that may impede on their performance on the SAT. The proposed adjusted time frame for block week would not only shift the block week away from the SAT, but it would also allow students the valuable time during Spring break to concentrate on preparing for mock exams.

I am a Junior at Springbrook High School that has seen the outrage from the other Junior IB and AP students in reaction to the alignment of the SAT and block week on the same week. Though this petition may seem selfish, with the sole interests of the Juniors, the petition aligns with a wide variety of students that do not favor the block week next week.
