Why this petition matters

Started by Linda Busek

Every year hundreds of animals’ lives are made miserable by fireworks. Veterinarians receive dozens of visits because of the terrible effect fireworks have on animals - not just dogs and cats, but other pets, livestock, and wildlife. These poor animals don’t understand what is causing the loud bangs and bright flashes. They not only suffer psychologically, but also physically as many attempt to run away from, or hide from, the bangs. It’s difficult for those who care for animals to be able to put measures in place to protect their animals. (Thunder jackets, CBD meds, tranquilizers don’t work for all pets.)

Holidays are meant to be peaceful, not reminiscent of war zones. Due to personal fireworks, dogs have been petrified and some have gone missing due to panic. Families trying to enjoy peaceful dinners and gatherings have to endure the sounds of explosions going off that cause great stress for family members, some who have served in the military on the front lines.

In addition, with the wildfires we endure in California, it is irresponsible to allow private individuals to shoot off fireworks. We should leave this job to the professionals.

Personal Fireworks have no place in our community. Please sign my petition calling for the Arroyo Grande City Council to review current firework regulations and implement a ban on personal fireworks.
