DAVID GILMORE started this petition to Armagh City Banbridge and Craigavon Council and

We, the undersigned, call on the Armagh City Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council to work with the Department for Infrastructure to secure an extension to existing footway on Ballyroney Road, Rathfriland from its current dead-end point to Iveagh Park Road.

This is an unnecessary dangerous stretch of road, and used regularly by pedestrians, walking groups and school children.  It is essential as a community, along with the Department for Infrastructure, that we help deliver on the Local Councils own Community Plan to help ‘Connect’ and build on the health and well-being of our citizens, particularly now in the aftermath of the Covid Pandemic, when we have seen a high increase on pedestrian road users.

We need to have a footway to ensure safety for children and pedestrians who wish to travel on foot the short distance from Rathfriland town centre to either the Council amenity site, the sports facilities of Rathfriland F.C. whether to participate, spectate or facilitate their childrens participation in sport, or anywhere else in the vicinity safely.

As local Councillors and residents have been lobbying for this footpath extension for numerous years now, we trust that you will endeavour to ensure this footpath request is included in the DFI upcoming capital plans as soon as reasonably possible.
