Ruth Garvey started this petition to Arlington County Board

The Fairlington community came together to decorate the Fairlington bridge with "BLM," to show support for the growing movement.  It is art work that was created by the many hands of the Fairlington community, each letter is carefully done with individual ties.  Even the County Board Chair tweeted about its sign of love and persistence.  It has been taken down and vandalized several times over.  The most egregious was yesterday, when an RV pulled up from Massachusetts and the occupants put up tacky Trump signs everywhere and then decided to camp out on the bridge so no one could take it down.  The police are unable to do anything since it is a regular public bridge and the BLM sign is just as (legal or illegal) as any other sign.   This is why we must petition the county to legally change the name of the bridge to "BLM bridge," which would mean "BLM" art work is okay and anything else is not.  Arlington is a diverse and welcoming community, and we must stand together as a County against the hate and racism going on in this country.
