Last December, my partner and I were struck by a car while crossing the intersection at Long Bridge Drive and 12th Street South in Arlington, VA. We had the cross walk, but the driver was distracted, saw they had a green light, and whipped through the intersection. Since then, we've come close to being hit two more times under similar circumstances; we had the cross walk, but the driver was distracted and sped through the intersection. 

Having a protected green light would ensure that pedestrians can safely cross the street and would allow drivers to turn with the knowledge that the green light is just for them! It's a win-win.
