Gov Asa Hutchinson, please address the state's concern on rent amidst the corona virus
To whom it may concern, there are many, many people in Arkansas who cannot work or have to self quarantine due to the corona virus. We have city curfews starting and people also not going into restaurants, therefore bartenders, waiters and waitresses are not getting paid. Most of us do not have the luxury of working from home and with stores closing early or people simply being laid off for not bringing in any revenue there is going to eventually be a high forecast of people not being able to pay their utilities, mortgages or rent. As more and more of American public life shuts down — schools, events, bars, restaurants — and the economic ripple effects of the coronavirus epidemic widen, a growing number of cities and states are moving to protect people from becoming homeless. Arkansas should do the same and help the residents of this state. Many are “just one financial emergency from not being able to pay rent, and coronavirus might be that emergency,” said Diane Yentel, president and CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition. “They might lose their jobs, they might have their hours cut back because of loss of business, or they might get sick and not be able to show up at work, and then they face the possibility of eviction, and potentially homelessness.” Please help the state and people in the community in general. It may not be affecting Arkansas that immensely right now, but at this point I am not seeing how it can get any better, especially if we are going to be forced to self quarantine to our homes for 2 weeks or more sooner or later.
Please sign this petition and maybe we can get some of the lawmakers to get a look at it. It may not be as urgent right now, but Arkansas is definitely in a state of emergency right now as Governor Hutchinson said himself.
Thank you,
A VERY concerned citizen.
