Old enough to pay state payroll taxes, Old enough to vote

Old enough to pay state payroll taxes, Old enough to vote

If we are able to work for wages and pay federal and state payroll tax at 16, then we should be able to vote. That is, by its fundamental means, taxation without representation. This is what our founding fathers fought for in the American Revolution; what is considered the precedent of the Declaration of Independence is the representation in our government being withheld while contributing financially to the government. I understand that many would be hesitant to this idea because as teenagers we may not always be very politically aware. But as a working class citizen, I pay attention to where the money out of my paycheck goes. This is a consequential aspect of politics in our capitalist society.
By this petition I hope to get in touch with my state governor, Asa Hutchinson, to discuss and consider granting working class minors the right to vote. I fully intend on taking matters to Washington, but, seeing as Federal income taxes are returned, I feel I should start at the state level and build from there. I feel that it is unfair that I contribute to payroll tax; however, I don’t get the opportunity to vote.
I encourage anyone who feels the same to please sign and contribute to the cause. I understand fully that my effort may or may not be recognized, but what is anything worth if you don’t try? It has come to my attention that I will not be able to vote in the 2020 presidential election: my 18th birthday happens to be a few days after Election Day. With that being said, I also encourage anyone of age to pay attention to the primaries, debates, and to go vote! Setting aside political opinions, the right to vote is something I believe so many take for granted. With your help we can lower the voting age, thank you.
