Many service members who get divorced end up paying much more than Civilians directly to their spouse, while making in many cases LESS than the median earned income of a single family household in that area. Service members (just because of their duties and responsibilities) are left paying alimony, child support, and other expenses when in fact the spouse is either not in a good place to support the child/children or completely unfit. The service member is expected to continue being relied upon to perform his/her duties adequately without essentially any income to live off of. In many cases service members have been known to pay excess of 50% of their income + alimony which is A lot of the time ALL of their BAH+child support. This is unfair to the men and women who we look to to keep us safe at night . Not only are we asking them to continue to put their lives on the line, now we ask them that they go above and beyond their means ONLY because they are service member and only because they are divorced? Not montiary equivalency or any other reason. Military divorce rates are high. Spouses are entitled to astronomical % of income, 100% of BAH , and (can’t believe it’s any) unreal % of retirement. Bring equality to the service member. They do it for you every day.
