Bring Laura Acevez's Murderer to Justice!

Laura Acevez, 21, was brutally murdered by her ex-boyfriend, Victor Acuna-Sanchez, on December 28, 2012, following a long trail of missteps and failures by the police and prosecutors in her hometown of Berryville, Arkansas. After a ruling this week by Judge Jay Finch that will suppress key prosecution evidence (including the murder weapon), it seems that Acuna-Sanchez could avoid punishment for his heinous crime.

Laura's killer tortured her for the last year of her life, threatening to kill Laura and her three children if she ever left him. He beat her with a baseball batdragged her behind a moving car, and strangled her until she blacked out. At the time of her murder, Laura's killer was awaiting trial for charges based on two prior attacks on Laura, including a felony charge for aggravated assault. He was out on bail and prohibited from having any contact with Laura under a court order. He was also supposed to check in with probation each week. Despite numerous violations of the court order and his probation, he faced no consequences for violating the conditions of his pretrial release. Just two days before her death, Laura called the police frantically after she found that Acuna-Sanchez had filled her car's gas tank with bleach. The police said they would look for Acuna-Sanchez, but never found him. Less than 48 hours later, Laura was found with a bullet in her head lying in a pool of her own blood, her four-month-old son beside her and covered in blood.

Please sign this petition asking Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe to intervene in this case and ensure that Laura's killer is brought to justice.
