To whom it may concern,

I am just one of many constituents in Argyll & Bute that are ready to cause a stink to remove the stink. As it stands residents in Dunoon are given one green bin and one blue bin, the green bin is intended for food waste, garden waste, sanitary waste, non-recyclable items and anything else you can think of, and the use of the blue bin is for recyclable items, such as paper and cardboard, the bin schedule as it stands is that green bins are collected every three weeks and blue bins every two weeks. We have had this in place for a few years now and it has had catastrophic consequences, bin lids no longer close and rubbish is being strewn across the streets, people are reluctant to use their own bins and often find that their bins are being filled with other households garbage, vermin are being enticed by all the food leftovers, and most food packaging isn’t recyclable so the blue bins in some instances are deemed useless, this is an environmental crisis. How can anyone be expected to harbour 3 weeks worth of sanitary products? Smelly nappies and rotting food now fill the air, this is not acceptable and no longer will we stand for such madness, some households are issued 2 green bins but that’s based on exceptional circumstances , how can any household utilise one green bin for 3 weeks? If bins are to be collected on a three weekly basis then certain measures need to be adhered to, such as providing every household with 2 green bins with the option to opt out, they should provide households that have young children with sanitary bags to dispose of nappies, there should be more public bins provided in each area and something needs to be put in place for carers to dispose of sanitary items that come from the individuals they care for, thus to avoid embarrassment for that person who is being cared for, it’s ludicrous. I feel that two weekly collections for our green bins has to be the way of the future, and I urge everyone in my local area to sign this petition and kick up a stink to eradicate the stink we endure on a daily basis.
