Should Spanish be offered for 6th graders at OIS?
This petition had 257 supporters
Orinda Intermediate School (OIS) currently does not offer any foreign language electives in 6th grade. Prior to entering OIS, approximately 25% (1 in 4) of OUSD children participate in Spanish programs that begin in kindergarten and run through 5th grade. I feel strongly that learning a second language is critical to success in a global society and is a key contributor to the overall development and academic success of OUSD students.
I am asking that OUSD implement a continuous 6th-8th grade Spanish program beginning in the 2018-19 school year to close the OIS 6th grade language gap. This would allow both Spanish 1 & 2 to be available at OIS. The current curriculum allows for only Spanish 1 to be covered in two years. Please ignore the contribution button that follows, our goal is to spread the word!
