Why this petition matters
On Sunday 3rd November the Hon. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat accused Fr. David Muscat of preaching hate and asked the Archbishop to censor him. This was done only a day after His Excellency, blessed the tombs of those who had been interdicted by the Church for their political views in the 1960s. Less than a week later the Hon. Rosianne Cutajar called Rev. Fr Muscat "a dangerous person riding on the wave of a xenophobic feelings and fomenting racism, whose comments do not qualify under the right of freedom of expression. Hate speech is a crime.”, as reported by local reporters. In view of the current direct and indirect attacks and accusations against his personal and pastoral integrity, we are signing this petition in full sympathy with the Reverend Father David Muscat.
Fit-3 ta’ Novembru l-Onorevoli Prim Ministru Dr. Joseph Muscat akkuza lir-Reverendu David Muscat li qiegħed jippriedka l-mibgheda u saħansitra talab lill-Arċisqof jieħu azzjoni dixxiplinarja fuqu. Dan seħħ ġurnata biss wara li l-Eċċellenza tiegħu bierek l-oqbra ta’ dawk li ġew interdetjati mill-Knisja minħabba l-opinjonijiet politiċi tagħhom fis-snin sittin. Anqas min ġimgħa wara, l-Onorevoli Rosianne Cutajar, sejħet lir-Rev. Muscat persuna perikoluża li qed jirkeb il-mewġa ta sentimenti xenofobiċi u jxewwex ir-razziżmu u li l-kummenti tiegħu ma jikwalifikawx gad-dritt tal-Liberta’ tal-Espressjoni. Saħansitra akkużatu b’Hate speech u li allura din hija azzjoni kriminali, dan kif gie rappurtat mill-midja lokali. F'dawl ta' dawn l-attakki fuq l-integrita’ personali u pastorali tar-Reverendu Muscat, aħna qiegħdin niffirmaw din il-petizzjoni b’sentiment ta’ rispett u simpatija.
