Archbishop Charles J. Chaput: Support the Resignation of Criminally Convicted Bishop Robert Finn

As a long time member of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia before entering religious life and having taught in parish grade schools and Catholic high schools there, I want Archbishop Charles J. Chaput to support the resignation of Bishop Robert Finn from the Kansas City – St. Joseph Diocese who was convicted of failing to report a priest who had taken or possessed hundreds of pornographic pictures of young girls.

I'm also a founding member of the National Survivor Advocates Coalition (NSAC ), an all volunteer organization that journeyed to Kansas City, MO within days of the criminal conviction of Bishop Finn to call for his resignation because a criminally convicted bishop cannot lead and everyday he remains in office he re-victimizes sexual abuse survivors. I've seen firsthand how child abuse within the church can be covered up.

As a veteran of the successful campaign to remove the Statute of Limitation covering the sexual abuse of minors in Delaware, and an advocate for sexual abuse survivors, I believe it is most inappropriate for Bishop Robert Finn to remain in the office of bishop and that Archbishop Charles J. Chaput should show true leadership by joining in the calls for Finn's resignation.

In September of 2012, a judge found Bishop Robert Finn guilty on one misdemeanor charge after he failed to report a priest who had taken or possessed hundreds of pornographic pictures of young girls. Even though Finn was found guilty in a court of law, he remains the Bishop of the Kansas City – St. Joseph Diocese. Archbishop Charles J. Chaput and United States Conference of Catholic Bishops should protect children and call for Finn's resignation.

Bishop Finn should immediately resign and Archbishop Charles J. Chaput should support his resignation.

NOTE: I encourage everyone to join this campaign, but if you're a Catholic person or survivor of abuse, please say so in the "Why People Are Signing" section.

Letter to
Archbishop Charles J. Chaput
Secretary to the Archbishop Rev. Brian Hennessy
Archbishop Charles J. Chaput,

I'm writing you today to ask that you support the resignation of Bishop Robert Finn.

Community members of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia want to see a commitment to ending child abuse from you and from Catholic leaders around the country. You can do this by publicly supporting the resignation of Bishop Robert Finn from the Kansas City – St. Joseph Diocese .

Please, show that you are a true leader by joining in the calls for Finn's resignation.

Thank you very much,
