Problem: These Private Railroad bridges’ vertical clearances are 13’-4” and 13’5”. These bridges are owned by 1. ArcelorMittal South Chicago (ICC DOT 953746C) and 2. Norfolk Southern Railway (ICC DOT 932931N).

Most Class II Truck routes need to be at least between 13’6” and 14’-2”.

These bridges have been hit by trucks or the trucks get stuck under the bridges.

Semi-trailer Trucks can not use the Stony Island corridor, which is from 95th Street to 57th Street due to the private railroad bridges' low vertical clearance and must re-route around the Avalon Park Community in Chicago, Illinois.

Solution:  Rebuild these private railroad bridges to meet the current minimum vertical clearance height requirements of 14 feet.

Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Minimum Vertical Clearance for a Freeway (Expressway) is 14 feet.
