Tell Aramark to Serve Healthier Food!

My name is Jessica, and I’ve spent years studying health and nutrition at the University of Florida. In that time, I’ve tried to eat well and stay healthy, but honestly, it’s been incredibly difficult because of the amount of unhealthy foods served by Aramark in our cafeterias.
It’s time Aramark puts the health of its customers first by following the recommendations of leading health organizations and providing more servings of fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains, and fewer servings of disease-causing meat and egg products.
As the nation’s second largest food service provider, Aramark is responsible for serving food in schools, hospitals, offices, and universities like mine. Aramark says their goal is to enrich and nourish the lives of its customers, but they continue to serve too many foods that contribute to disease and chronic illness, which is why I’m passionate about standing up for change and why I'm working with Balanced, a nonprofit organization dedicated to getting healthier foods served at schools like mine, to find solutions to the challenges many people face on campuses across the country.
As a student in an Aramark cafeteria, I don’t have a choice about what I am served. Aramark decides what’s on the menu, and more often than not, it’s not in line with the best nutrition evidence. Their menus feature too much unhealthy food like greasy chicken sandwiches, known disease-causing processed meats, foods high in cholesterol like egg products and cheeseburgers, and not enough of the health-promoting foods recommended by organizations like The Mayo Health Clinic, Kaiser Permanente, and The Obesity Action Coalition.
Heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes affect millions of Americans - my own family included - and the food we’re being served contributes to this public health crisis. It scares me to know childhood obesity rates have tripled over the past four decades, and 1 in 3 people my age is on track to developing diabetes.
The evidence is clear: top nutrition experts consistently emphasize the importance of a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains and note the disease-causing effects of meat and egg products.
Even while other food service companies have adopted policies that put the health of their customers first, Aramark continues to serve too much unhealthy and disease-causing food, putting their profits ahead of our health.
Please, sign this petition to tell Aramark to put our health first by replacing 20% of the unhealthy meat and egg products on their menus with more servings of fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains.
It’s time for Aramark to show us they truly care about enriching and nourishing our lives. It's time their menus get balanced now.
