Students who sit the English Language GCSE examination deserve more time to complete the Paper 2 component: Writers' Viewpoints and Perspectives. This is because there is no parity between the time given for Paper 1, which is 1 hour and 45 minutes and requires students to answer 5 questions but with one source. On the other hand, for Paper 2, students are given the same time of 1 hour 45 minutes to complete five questions. However, there is an additional requirement, as students are asked to read two sources within this time and compare two sources for two separate questions. This then poses difficulty for students who have to not only read and annotate both sources, but also to respond to the questions which put students at a disadvantage. It is therefore imperative that additonal time be given to ensure that there is fairness for all, as the greatest complaint from students is the short time given. Thus, it would benefit them if students get an additional 25 minutes added on, to make the time 2 hours and 10 mins for Paper 2. We must ensure that there is fairness so that all students can get equal opportunities to be the best that they can be.
