Domestic violence (DV) service providers are crucial for victims of intimate partner violence to receive the appropriate care that they need. Not to mention, DV providers and organizations educate and bring awareness to communities about the severity of domestic violence. In order for these providers to continue their work, we urge Texas Senators, Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, to agree to reauthorize The Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act of 2021 (FVPSA) (HR 2119). If this bill is passed, then $327.5 million in annual assistance will be allocated specifically to help domestic violence programs and organizations in the US. This would allow the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to reauthorize its FVSPA program, the Domestic Violence Enhancement and Leadership Through Alliances (DELTA) program, and the National Domestic Violence Hotline. In addition, HHS will be able to support prevention services provided by community-based organizations, coalitions and tribal domestic violence service providers through grants and cooperative agreements. Lastly, this bill will provide grant programs specifically for tribal DV coalitions and the hotline dedicated to serving Native Americans/Indians, so that this population may be served in a culturally competent way. We ask that the Senators join us in our fight to educate and bring awareness about the topic of domestic violence, as well as provide sufficient funding to organizations so that they may serve the victims with adequate resources.
