In November of 2012, almost 500,000 people voted to create the Pets' Trust Initiative, programs that would lead to ending the killing of animals in Miami-Dade County, and agreed to pay a little more to do that. The Initiative would increase the countywide general tax fund millage by 0.1079 mills, creating a dedicated funding source of $20Million to save these animals from being killed every single day. The average homeowner would pay $15 a year.
After the election, Mayor Gimenez said he would “support the will of the people” and fund the entire amount they voted for. He even included the amount in his initial budget proposal.
After saying this repeatedly for months and months, the Mayor decided that the people “really didn’t know what they were voting for”...and killed the Pets’ Trust. He did not implement the Pets’ Trust programs.
Are you disappointed in Mayor Carlos Gimenez's decision to cast aside almost a half million votes?
Let's demand he approve the funding 65% of our community voted for. Let’s demand he honor our votes. Let’s demand he save our animals.
Support the will of the people and fund the entire amount that was voted for.
