Hello Monticello neighbors!!

I am starting this petition because the Board of Directors for Monticello decided to close the Manors Pool due to a shortage of lifeguards. I understand that the board will not allow the pools to be open without the presence of a lifeguard. However, our pools are fairly small and only 5’ deep at the deepest end. And I have to believe that we are all responsible adults. I am sure we can all swim without being watched by a lifeguard that for the most part is a high school student working part time to pay bills. 
I understand that those of you that are parents, enjoy taking your kids to the pool to enjoy some time in the sunshine and let the kids burn off some of energy in the pools. It may also be that we rely on the lifeguards to “babysit” the kids while we visit with our neighbors and enjoy the day. I hope that is not the reason we are requiring lifeguards to be on hand to have the pools open. I think and believe we can all enjoy the pool and watch our children at the same time. 
I was speaking with one of the lifeguards recently, and he informed me there has never been a life rescue at the Manor Pool. I  am not sure about the other two pools, but I am fairly confident that there have been few if any life rescues at them as well. 
I am wanting to change the rules at all three pools to being able to swim without the supervision of a lifeguard. With the incredible shrinking of lifeguards around the entire area, this is really our only option. Otherwise we will eventually end up closing all three pools, and that is NOT acceptable. I moved into Monticello 8 years ago. One of the major selling points for me was the pools. And we pay a lot of money for the annual maintenance and up keep of those pools in our subdivision dues. Let us not lose that opportunity yo swim just because there isn’t a lifeguard present.
