When I learned I have immediate, biological family in Romania as a young teen, my world shifted. My heart was filled with joy and eyes grew big with excitement. Years passed and I wondered why my family had not visited me in the United States. 

In August of 2021, I was fortune with the opportunity to meet some of my family in Romania. When I asked when they will visit me, they replied they cannot as it's been very difficult for a visa approval. Regardless of the strong bond the USA has with Romania, their citizens have not been accepted into our Visa Waiver Program. A program that will allow approved citizens to travel to the USA via leisure or business. 

I thought back to my young teen self, and my heart shattered.
