Why this petition matters

Started by Janelle Lau

The Layton Lakes HOA Board of Directors has decided NOT to rye (overseed) grass this season, which means NO green grass November through March.

This grass is VITAL to several migratory birds, especially the American Widgeon ducks that feed and forage on this grass during late fall and winter when they migrate here.  Liberty Wildlife has logged more than 120 American Widgeon ducks in our community.

According to biologists from Liberty Wildlife and US Fish and Game, these ducks DO use this overseed (rye) grass as a food source. Bird species are struggling with increased habitat loss etc.

The HOA usually overseeds with rye at all community parks. Our simple ask is that they can AT LEAST overseed with rye at the Main Layton Lakes Park, to help these ducks survive.
