“When we play, we connect. When we connect, we feel better. When we feel better, we do better. When we do better, we can become better.” Ashik Naidoo - Founder of The Alley Oop Project, an organisation that uses basketball as a tool to raise awareness and reduce the stigmas surrounding mental health while improving well-being and activity in the community through inclusive participation in the sport of basketball via Wide Bay Basketball’s 10+ programs, including events, tournaments and competitions.
Wide Bay Basketball, operating under The Alley Oop Project, engages with different members of the community ranging from 2yr olds all the way through to senior citizens from all walks of life, socio economic standings, cultural backgrounds, genders and sexual orientations.
The 10+ programs, events, tournaments and competitions are designed to encourage participation and activity in a positive manner whilst promoting an approach of sportsmanship and fair play.
This positive culture and engagement is designed to, and has a mission and vision of improving community mental health and well-being by raising awareness and reducing the stigmas with a byproduct of enhancing the local business community’s economy and industries.
The Alley Oop Project is an Australian Private Company registered as Not-For-Profit Special Purpose, which means that money raised through it will always go back into Wide Bay Basketball to improve all program’s delivery and enhance the ability to reach many more in the community of the Wide Bay - Burnett region.
We currently lack the facilities in Hervey Bay to effectively deliver our programs, events, tournaments and competitions and we urge you to help us through your community voice by signing this petition for funding of a sport specific basketball stadium.
This petition also helps the Hervey Bay Basketball Association in its quest to be recognised as a growing and competitive organisation in the 5on5 traditional basketball format of play.
We are also looking for businesses to sponsor individual and/or multiple programs, events, tournaments and competitions with an opportunity for short and long term partnerships.
