Why this petition matters

Started by Bryony Horner

I have been a resident in The Ridings for nearly 2 years and both me and my partner love it and want to bring up our family here peacefully and safely.

The only problem with the area we have had, is the cars parking on the roads, especially on the corners and bends that are causing significant visibility issues. This tied with speeding over the limit of 20mph is a recipe for disaster and I dread the day I see it.

As a paramedic, I have attended multiple road traffic collisions in my time, but I have now sadly attended a few in my own estate.

One of these incidents was someone who sadly has suffered serious, life-changing injuries and I have seen the devastating effect it has had on the family, including their children missing out on walking to the park for fear of that road.

I think it’s reasonable to ask that double yellow lines are installed on the bends, this still allows ample space for parking. I am under the impression that all residents on the estate have at least 1 designated space. I do understand that each property may have multiple vehicles and think to combat this, specific additional parking space could be added.

For those who park at the front of their properties just because it’s easier, just stop and think of the impact it has on all users of this road, and please use your spaces provided when they are free.

If this is approved, I think these simple changes will make the estate safer for all to use without the fear of anymore incidents, although not 100% avoidable I think we can improve the safety.

I plan to take this to the local parish council, South Norfolk Council and Norfolk County Council, as well as the local MP, so need as much support as possible to make change happen.
