Why this petition matters

Started by Esther Kim

With the recent approval of the AB824 bill, this petition signifies Riverside County students’ desire for representation through the establishment of a student board member position on the Riverside County Board of Education.

The AB824 bill signed on October 8th, 2021 enables county boards of education to appoint one or more high school-level pupils as functioning trustees of the board. Student board members work alongside elected trustees to represent the student populace and communicate with student constituents and governing bodies, ensuring that their diverse needs are heard through their preferential vote and trustee rights.

The voice of a student on the county board of education is essential to provide constituent perspectives in key decision-making processes and strengthen communication between the governing entity and youth, ultimately equipping the county  with feedback to make the best decisions possible for the students they serve.

In order to implement this vital role, we need 500 signatures from students attending high school in Riverside! Please sign this petition, leave a testimony of support in the comments, and share this petition with your peers to help lead this change.
