Observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday as a School Holiday in Appleton School District

In 1983, a federal holiday was created to honor Dr. Martin Luther King as one of the greatest leaders of history. Appleton Area Schools do not acknowledge this holiday; one of the few districts in the state to do so. AASD strives to value diversity, but works against itself by dishonoring King’s legacy. We encourage AASD to honor this holiday and cancel instruction in addition to promoting service on this day as King intended.
By signing this petition you are joining the coalition of justice to bring acceptance and tolerance to the community of Appleton as well as committing yourself to the call to service. In the words of Dr. King “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”
