Fix all MacBook Pros (2016-present) with stage light effect / backlight shutdown #Flexgate
Current generations of MacBook Pro laptops (2016-present) use flexible ribbon cables to connect the display to the display controller board beneath the Touch Bar. This flex cable is put under frequent stress by the opening and closing of the laptop, which leads to its inevitable failure.
Using the MacBook Pro (2016-2019) under normal conditions over time, your laptop may start to show following symptoms:
- Stage light effect appears at the bottom of the screen when you use a high brightness level.
- Backlight shutdown comes after opening the lid past a certain degree angle.
Both of them are caused by a fractured display flex cable due to its design flaw.
Most of these laptops started to suffer this issue after the 1-year warranty period! There are an increasing number of reports every day, and the only solution is a costly $600 LCD replacement!
We kindly ask Apple to launch an extended warranty program addressed to ALL MacBook Pros that utilize this flex cable design as soon as possible.
Apple has only offered support to 2016 MacBook Pro users.
Sincerely,
Apple Customers
