Anti-Rice Tarrification Law

The signing of the Rice Tariffication Law has made things worse for the country’s farmers, one of the poorest sectors in our country. The law essentially allows for the liberalization of rice imports. It will remove the previously placed quota on rice imports, permitting traders to import a near-unlimited quantity of rice. Therefore, the farmers would have a hard time competing with the importers because they offer lower price than local rice price.

The implementation of the Rice Tariffication Law could benefit us consumers because the cost of rice would be cheaper because of foreign imports but in the long run, the livelihood of our local farmers would be hurt and put into risk. Let us not forget our farmers. Why is it that they have fed us for a long time yet they can’t feed themselves and their family well. They provided us bountiful of rice resources for decades and yet in a glimpse, the government tends to forget their sake and their livelihood.

The government should allocate funds for our local farmers so that they can go through and follow the standard prices and they would not be left out. How would we all achieve a rich and sustainable economy if we will not lift every one of us? I hope that every people reading this up to now would be of help to save our local farmer’s livelihood. Let us appreciate them and practice the art of helping each one of us . With this in mind, we would all be having a living-wealth money system dedicated to providing financial services responsive to economic needs and opportunities in our country’s citizens.
