Stephen Ng started this petition to YAB Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad (Perdana Menteri Malaysia)

Dear YAB Tun Dr Mahathir,

One of the promises in the Pakatan Harapan GE14 manifesto was the setting up of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).

This initiative is an important step to protect the image and to restore public confidence in the Royal Malaysian Police, which, unfortunately, has suffered severe setbacks because of a few rotten apples.

The recommendation to set up the IPCMC was made in 2005 after a Royal Commission Inquiry completed its investigation into the nude squat incident, which the Commission condemned as "degrading and humiliating"

A number of cases involving custodial deaths have also been highlighted in the media, creating concerns about the integrity of our boys in blue.

Recently, during the oral submission at the Suhakam Inquiry, the counsels for Pastor Raymond Koh and Amri Che Mat's families, as well as the Bar Council also called upon the government to set up the IPCMC urgently.

The setting up of the IPCMC will ensure that there is check-and-balance in the police force. This will reduce the number of cases of rogue policemen.

We, therefore, urge YAB Tun and the Inspector-General of Police to give full support to the setting up of the IPCMC.

As fellow Malaysians, we would like to see a police force that is beyond reproach that we and every good policeman can be truly proud of.

Thank you.
