I am a 16 1/2 year law enforcement veteran who was shot in the line of duty and forced to take a man's life with his toddler present. The scars, physical and mental proved to be too much and I became severely depressed eventually forced out of law enforcement. I was deemed disabled due to PTSD five years ago and receine social security disability. This allows me to draw a partial retirement through APERS however I know numerous officers who were hurt in the line of duty and receive full pensions. I gave my life to the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office and the state of Arkansas. I feel I should have been granted full retirement. I am living below poverty level and was without insurance for 3 years. I was once paraded around the Lions Club and the governor of Arkansas now I'm just Faulkner County's forgotten hero. PTSD is very real and many police officers struggle with this often times with no help from their agencies. I am asking APERS to review policies and my case and do what's right. I would have died that night for any citizen instead I am left to live in poverty. Please sign if you will. Thanks and God bless.
