As you have probaby seen in the title of this petition, I want to have schools address student's mental health more. This pandemic has affected everyone. Online school is very hard, and teachers give even more homework than before distance learning started. It's really hard to focus, even if you don't have ADHD or the like.

Doesn't matter the student's gender or sexuality, they should get the same amount of treatment. Some people believe that boys/males should just "Man up" and stop crying. That's not how people work though. Boys, girls, and in betweens all feel emotions the same. They shouldn't recieve treatment any differently.

I actually have experienced this myself. To keep this from being too long, my depression started in 6th grade, and has kept getting worse. I have seen therapists and taken medication, but for all the effort I make to not have these depressive episodes, school really stresses me out and makes it worse. Counselors are not very useful, even when they do understand whats going on.

Schools should do these things to help with student's mental health:

  • Not give as much homework to those who are going to places to focus on their mental health
  • Have teachers coordinate their tests and quizzes so no one has 3 tests on the same day'
  • Don't give homework for the weekend
  • If they are being bullied, don't punish them for fighting back
  • Don't invalidate their feelings and efforts
