Make Deal Street one-way and eliminate constant road rage!

Since the council reinstated a small number of parking spaces on Hanbury Street, between Deal Street and the junction with Greatorex, the result has been traffic chaos, irate cyclists, confused pedestrians and a large number of road-rage incidents, often leading to horrendous clashes, endless traffic jams and obscene shouting and swearing matches between motorists.

This is a designated cycle route, yet cyclists take their lives in their hands as drivers emerge from Deal Street at speed and with no regard for traffic coming from both directions. What's more, there is not even a STOP or GIVE WAY sign at the end of Deal Street, so drivers are left wondering who has right of way.

The result is traffic chaos, particularly at peak times, including 3-4, when parents are fetching children on foot or by car. Traffic is single-file because of the parking spaces, but no one knows who has priority and in which direction. In addition, there is barely room to turn the tight corner between Hanbury and Deal Street, so motorists frequently hit or drive over the large bollard on the corner or drive onto the pavement on both roads, endangering the lives of local children especially.

This is all completely and unnecessary. All the council needs to do is make Hanbury Street one-way (except for the last stretch down to Vallance Road, which is a cul-de-sac) and allow the traffic to flow freely and smoothly around the block in the middle. It's not rocket science, we just need to make it happen for the sake of all concerned. Otherwise it's only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or even killed.
