Due to mold toxicity from my last apartment, I was without a home and a safe space to call my own for nearly two years. I finally found a new home in 2019 and signed a lease and was told by the broker this was an investor and I would almost definitely have the option to extend. I planned on staying here for many years to heal and regain my life since it was a safe enough environment for my health condition. My landlord called me this week, 6 days before my lease expiration when I’ve conveyed for months that I plan on staying for at least another year, and in the midst of a global pandemic, claimed she wants to sell it and that I’d need to leave in 3 months. I’m super high risk, and feel it unconscionable to ask me to go in and out of public places day in and day out looking for a new apartment, and another safe environment which is no simply task let alone during a pandemic when my doctors have advised me to stay in for at least 3 months post end of quarantine... And, it poses as an impossible task given nyc and the world at large too, are all in quarantine. Please help me by signing this petition to ask my landlord to let me rent for one more year so I can stay alive and not risk contracting Covid.
