Recently, President Elect Joe Biden announced Gina Raimondo's confirmation for Commerce secretary. This position is in the cabinet, and if confirmed by the senate will mean Raimondo's responsibility to represent "business community interest and promote economic growth". Raimondo's proposal towards the cannabis industry and reform, is to essentially allow the government to monopolize it. Instead of expanding upon the thriving private market already existing in what would be referred to as "legal states" or "medical states", the state would control all aspects of distribution. Raimondo claims this is would "prevent youth consumption, and protect public health". This claim is laughably transparent. Don't believe what she is trying to say about "public health", people advocating for this plan don't care about the American people, it's so obviously a cash grab. We cannot trust the cannabis industry in the government's hand, not to mention the 240,000+ jobs that will be eliminated by this (along with the fast growing job market). After decades of an unjust prohibition, Americans don't deserve to have the legal industry snatched from their finger tips by greedy politicians. The government doesn't control the alcohol or tobacco industry for a reason, why allow this with cannabis? Make a stand, and let the government know who the industry rightfully belongs to, the American people.
