In the light of COVID many people are staying home for the safety of the public. Luckily, they have time to take courses or programs to further their careers or even start a new career.

Unfortunately, in British Columbia you can only take an online course if it is offered at the same university on site and you will receive the credits in the same amount of time that a student would in person.

Therefore if you want to take a course not offered in person - online and or fast track your career you simply will not get a Canadian government funded loan as a B.C. resident.

Compare this to Ontario where OSAP will cover such online schooling’s for its residents

I was going to take a masters in counselling from a private online university but, I realized I will have to move back to Ontario just to get government funding to continue my career.

Policies like this make it so people like me have to leave the province and take our passion for education and even helping others elsewhere. This depletes provincial education as a whole, our economy and even our social welfare.

It is an archaic policy and is especially noticeable in an online era, amplified by the unfortunate COVID 19 disease.

Please help Canada, specifically those in British Columbia lift this debilitating policy keeping people from furthering their education.

Thank you!
