Antipolo City, with the help of its determined residents, is one of the most environmentally-compliant cities in Region 4-A.
The city has already made actions to support the environment such as the "Basura Code" and "Yes to Green Program". In accordance to the Republic Act 9003 known as Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, and Section 447 of RA 7160, the city of Antipolo has implemented the City Ordinance No. 2009-370 (2009). It is an ordinance that prohibits the use of plastic bags on dry goods, and Styrofoam, regulates the utilization of plastic bags on wet goods, and established the prescribed penalties thereof.
Plastic bags are disrupting nature's growth as it pollutes our land and water. They take hundreds of years to decompose and our continuous patronage would cause more plastics to fill up landfills or destroy our environment. Plastics end up in our waters and are consumed by marine animals which causes fatal consequences. Plastic destruction is complex and damaging for when they are incinerated releases deadly chemicals that pollutes the environment and could also harm us.
Although it makes a shopper’s life easy, it has deadly effects to both us and our environment. Using reusable bags helps in saving our planet. It also saves us money for we use quality reusable bags, we could use them for years.
A stronger implementation of the plastic ban is needed to have a sustainable and environment-friendly city. Let us make these small sacrifices that would eventually benefit us and our home. Together let us #RejectPlastic !
