From a young age I have had to face all sorts of abuse from my own family members. Mental abuse, sexual abuse, emotional and physical abuse. I have never had the courage to speak about how this has and is affecting me till now. I haven’t been able to talk with councillors, therapist or even my close friends about the depth of the affects. What I do know, is that I am not the only one dealing with the affects of the abuse. I want to be able to help other people out there who are unable to speak about their trauma. I want to be able to make them aware of the fact that no matter how much they feel it, they are not alone. Depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and attempts…I’ve been there. I know how it feels to not feel. All seems hopeless especially when the people we should be turning to in such situations are the very same people who have caused us so much pain. I want this to stop. We will fight the trauma and take back our life. We will do this together.
