Senate Bill 54: The California Values Act aims at clarifying the role of hospitals, schools, and local law enforcement. It makes a statement that California will not participate in the anti-immigrant rhetoric in the White House. The bill has just passed the Senate and is on to the Assembly.

California Values Act” by Senate President Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) to prevent the use of state and local resources for federal immigration enforcement actions that will separate families and hurt the state’s economy. Public safety will suffer if local law enforcement loses the trust of the immigrant community or uses its resources to enforce immigration laws instead of focusing on serious felonies.
