Re-Instate Bryan Kennedy

Bryan Kennedy, lead Unite representative at One Housing Group (OHG) was sacked from his job on 17th June 2014 having being suspended since February. Unite belives this is a case of victimisation. The suspension took place immediately before a negotiation meeting in which the union would have raised the prolonged six-year pay freeze imposed on staff, while top executives have received regular increases. It currently pays some staff just £3.79 per hour. OHG have a history of harassing and sacking trade union representatives. In 2009 a Unison rep at Island Homes – part of OHG - was sacked. Unison is clear that this was a case of victimisation and tenants protested that she had been speaking out against bad practice. Unite is determined to protect union reps and to prevent intimidation of union members in the sector. Members have already taken four days strike action in support of their rep following a ballot in which 89% voted for action. OHG has refused repeated approaches from Unite to discuss industrial relations and the treatment of union representatives in the organisation and to find a resolution.
