SAVE THE CREEMORE VILLAGE BANK

Creemore TD Canada Trust is scheduled to close on May 4th, 2018.
Since its incorporation, more than 125 years ago, Creemore has been served by a community bank. It was on November 4, 1902 that the Bank of Toronto opened it’s doors in this village. To many local residents, this bank is the hub of the community. It is a place for entrepreneurs to launch business, for families to grow their security, for local youth to open their first bank account, a place to get investment advice, a place to deposit or withdraw funds - all securely held in the heart of our village.
The impeding closure will affect surrounding businesses vastly. We are a village defined by independent businesses that are family run, locally employed and tourist driven. We will be negatively impacted without direct access to bank funds and trusted advisors, not to mention the influence of a solidly stationed anchor that the bank has come to represent in this community. The success and vitality of our businesses, farmers’ market, special events and festivals, all depend upon access to the bank and corresponding bank machine.
Our general population relies on access to the bank for all of the reasons mentioned above. Particularly for our elderly residents who do not know how to bank online and who are unable to drive/walk/bike to a bank outside of our town, it is crucial. In a time of digital and technological dominance, detachment and indifference, there is a reliance on bank staff to educate and provide considerate service to clients of all ages and abilities. This can only happen in face to face human connections. It should be the responsibility of institutions like a community bank to provide courteous, hospitable, neighbourly services to all of those that have believed in and financed their existence.
Solutions such as shorter work days, fewer staff and countless others, should be considered in cooperation and in communication with the community before this momentous decision to close is made. Creemore has a new housing development in the works, an expanding power station, a stronger than ever real estate market, new and expanding businesses, growing and thriving tourism that is being bolstered by positive commendations from influential observers, so it is hard to believe that TD would give up on this community now. We ask that TD Canada Trust’s corporate management team not neglect a community that has done everything to mutually ensure economic livelihood.
We persuade TD Canada Trust to reconsider their decision to close and to stay and support the community that has supported them for so many years. We sign this petition to show support for the Creemore TD Canada Trust branch and to ask that the hard earned money of Creemore’s businesses and residents be kept in Creemore.
