Lisa Thomas started this petition to Anthony Annucci - Commissioner of NYS DOCCS

It has came to my attention that as of March 6, 2019 E Coli has been found in the water in Malone, NY. Malone, NY is the hub for 3 major correctional facilities, Bare Hill, Upstate and Franklin. It has also come to my attention that the inmates have been provided with supplemental water - in jugs, however they are only allowed to have 6-8oz per shift. Which is 3 times per day. Any more water obtained could result in a "ticket" for failure to obey rules. I commend the NYS DOCCS for supplying this water - however 24oz of water in 24 hours in not acceptable. When water is 90% of what the inmates have access to for drinking, cooking and bathing, this is unacceptable! Bottled water should be made available for all of the inmates affected in this situation just as if they were not in a correctional facility. Inmates are people too and should be treated with dignity and respect. According to the National Institute of Medicine the average person is supposed to consume at least 64 ounces of water per day, however the recommended amount is 3 liters which is 101 oz. Failure to provide adequate water intake could result in dehydration, Kidney Stones, UTI's, among other health problems. I am asking that you sign my petition in hopes that we can get Anthony Annucci - Commissioner of NYS DOCCS to provide ample supply of water to the inmates at these correctional facilities.
