Anthem BlueCross BlueShield is Preventing My Son Ryan From Keeping His Independence
This petition had 12,140 supporters
For anyone who knows Duchenne muscular dystrophy, they know it’s a deadly disease that cuts far too many precious lives short. Our family knows it all too well – Ryan, who is 14, has lived with Duchenne since he was diagnosed in 2009 at age 6.
Although a horrific disease, Ryan is doing much better because he was lucky enough to be part of a clinical for Exondys 51, a drug that is now FDA-approved. It’s far from a cure, but we’ve seen the positive impact that it has had on Ryan’s daily life. Unlike most patients who are not able to walk at 10 or 12, at 14 Ryan is still walking his little dog, swimming and playing with his friends. He still has the independence he needs to live a very happy life.
Our insurance company, Anthem BlueCross BlueShield, is trying to take this treatment away from Ryan. Even though he was part of the group of only 12 boys in the United States that led to the FDA approving the drug, the company is saying that he’s now not worthy of it.
Please sign my family’s petition and help us fight back against Anthem.
Imagine your child being told by a big insurance company that they can’t have a drug that is already improving their life.
Anthem had revenue of more than $80 billion last year – this is greed, plain and simple. Ryan deserves this drug to help him lead a more normal life. He wants to keep his independence
Thanks for helping our family. Anthem, I hope you’re listening.
