Anthem BlueCross BlueShield Can Help Give My 7-Year-Old a Future. They Won't Do It.

My seven-year-old, Jacob, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when he was 9 months old and life for our family hasn't been the same since. Jacob is still very young, so there's urgency to get him treatment while he still has muscle function left. This is the age that boys with Duchenne start to deteriorate quickly.
Jacob loves cars, trucks and dreams of one day becoming a mechanic. Such a dream seems impossible with his condition. Luckily, the FDA approved a drug last year that gives our family hope. The drug, Exondys 51, helps his body to create dystrophin so he can maintain the ability to walk and move normally. With medicine like this, our family has hope that Jacob can live a normal life. The thought of my little boy pursuing all of his dreams keeps me going every day.
Despite this treatment's approval, insurance companies are blocking our access to the drug. We need to change this-for my son and all of the other kids suffering from this terrible disease. He's the apple of my eye and I'd do anything for him.
PLEASE SIGN MY PETITION IF YOU BELIEVE OUR CHILDREN DESERVE TO HAVE EVERY CHANCE AT A BRIGHT FUTURE.
We need to show insurance companies that our kids' lives matter. Please share this petition with everyone in your communities so that we can send a message to Anthem that we won't stand for this.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting us during this trying time. I just ask you to imagine that this were your child and there was a treatment available - yet he couldn't get it.
