Another Chance to Vote for Grant County Pool

Another Chance to Vote for Grant County Pool
Why this petition matters
By signing this petition you can show your support for a bond measure to fund a new pool facility for Grant County, and request that the John Day Canyon City Parks and Recreation District (JDCCPR) Board refer the bond measure to the ballot for the November 8, 2022 election.
In May, 2022, residents of the John Day Canyon City Parks and Recreation District (JDCCPR) voted on a bond to fund a new pool for Grant County. The vote ended in a tie, 802-802, meaning the bond measure did not pass. Unfortunately, the opposition’s campaign misled voters. They presented the issue as a choice between repairing the old Gleason pool vs. building a new pool. In reality, it was not feasible to repair the old pool, and the sale of the property to Oregon State Parks for expansion of the Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Center was already in its final stages before the election. Shortly after the election, the Gleason Pool was demolished.
It is now undeniably clear that rebuilding the old pool is not an option, and JDCCPR residents should be given another chance to vote and show their support for a pool. For this to happen, the JDCCPR board needs to vote to refer the measure to the ballot.
Sign this petition if you want to voice your support for a pool and believe you deserve another chance to vote on a bond to fund it.
