Why this petition matters

Started by alyssa urban

This change will impact my community by empowering younger girls to wear what they are comfortable wearing to school to a certain extent without being sexualized by peers and authority figures.

Recently at my school, Anoka Hennepin Regional High School, I was sent home for wearing a shirt that was showing my “mid drift”. Right before I was sent home there was an announcement to the whole school  saying that we are not allowed to show our “mid drift” at school at all because it is “not the club”. These are the words of the principle, Nancy Chave. I was walking to my third hour class when I was pulled aside into her office and I was told I was not allowed to wear the shirt I was wearing because once again “it is not the club”. When I told her I was uncomfortable changing into a t-shirt she wanted to give me, she had called my parents and brought me to in school suspension. I had called my dad very frustrated with what was going on and she told me that I "was done". I had then asked if I could meet with the school therapist to let her know what is going on as well. My parents came to pick me up and we had went to talk to her and she continued to say that I am not allowed to wear shirts that show any parts of my "mid drift" but she did not say anything about how this is "not the club" in front of my parent or my therapist. I will link a picture to show you guys what I was wearing after I was under the impression that I was disrupting the education process when in reality, it was my education that was interrupted due to this "dress code".
